This was the Douglas DC-5 prototype, NX21701 Serial # 411 seen in flight on 17 April 39, almost two months after its madian flight on 20 February 39. It was initially powered by two 900 HP Wright GR-1820-F62 Cyclone 9 cylinder air-cooled radial engines.
